The device that was about to reshape the mobile industry was years in the making at Apple, a project so secret that different teams working on wouldn’t even know what the others were tasked with. Apple fans already know some of the inside stories about the iPhone’s inception and creation process. But a new video starring three former iPhone stars offers us an even better take on the whole production process. Continue reading... Late last week, a blogger with a very strong track record leaked a slew of details surrounding Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Note 8. According to the report, Samsung's hotly anticipated new flagship phablet will feature killers specs highlighted by a 6.3-inch Super AMOLED display with the same 18.5:9 aspect ratio as the Galaxy S8, 6GB of RAM, Exynos 8895 or Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 chipsets depending on region, dual 12-megapixel rear cameras, a 3,300 mAh battery, and an updated S Pen stylus with new features. All of that sounds like terrific news, but there was one other detail offered in the report that isn't very good news: The Galaxy Note 8's price. Continue reading... …

One of the more high-profile battlegrounds amongst tech giants these days, oddly enough, doesn't even involve technology. On the contrary, a number of tech behemoths have signaled their intention to get into the business of developing original TV programming. Apple's interest in developing original content is of course no big secret, and now comes word that Facebook is also interested in throwing its hat into the mix. Continue reading... Watch a security developer exact sweet revenge on IRS scammers
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies

Over the past few years, one of the more prevalent and successful scams going around has involved individuals posing as IRS agents and demanding payment of back taxes. By preying on individuals who are either elderly, unsophisticated, or have limited English-language proficiency, the scammers are able to convince some individuals that they might be subject to hefty fines, jail time, and even deportation if they don't make a prompt payment. AT&T promises massive broadband investment if Trump gives it tax breaks
by Guest Chris Mills- 0 replies
There's a tired old trick for internet service providers that want a tax break to continue gouging customers. The ISP will make some vague promise of future broadband investment, in return for immediate tax breaks or approval of an industry deal. On the surface, it sounds good: delivering broadband to rural areas is often uneconomic, so government often wants to cut a deal with private industry to deliver it. But the problem is that internet providers seem to have a really tricky time keeping to their promises, and unexpected roadblocks just happen to always spring up right around the time the investment is meant to happen. That's why AT&T's promise to President…

How the CIA hacks computers that aren’t even connected to the internet
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
Air-gapped computers are supposed to be ultra-secure PCs that can’t be infected with malware that spreads with the help of the internet. That’s because of these computers, often connected to sensitive machines, aren’t also connected to the internet. You’d think these systems would be impenetrable by remote attacks and would require a hacker to be in the same room with the PC. But, unsurprisingly, the CIA developed tools that can infect air-gapped computers. Continue reading... HURRY: Amazon Echo just dropped to its lowest price of all time
by Guest Maren Estrada- 0 replies
The Amazon Echo is currently on sale at its lowest price of all time. We repeat: the Amazon Echo is currently on sale at its lowest price of all time. This is not a drill, people, but it is a very limited-time offer. For 24 hours only on Monday, June 26, Amazon is shaving $50 off the regular price of its wildly popular Echo smart speaker. That means you can score one for just $129.99, which is an all-time low. Not even Amazon’s Black Friday pricing last year was able to match this sale, but it ends at one minute before midnight tonight (Eastern Time) so grab one — or several — while you still can! Here are some highlights from the Amazon Echo product page: Plays al…

Insiders detail why Apple’s efforts in the TV space have been unsuccessful
by Guest Yoni Heisler- 0 replies
Apple's interest in the TV space has been nothing short of a jumbled mess, in part because the company can't seem to decide whether it wants to dive in head first and invest in original content that people actually want to watch. Recently, Apple introduced its first original show, a largely lambasted tech-oriented reality series called Planet of the Apps. Of course, Apple's unfamiliarity with how TV in the modern era works was on full display as Apple forced users actually interested in the show to jump through a number of hoops in order to watch it, unless of course you were an Apple Music subscriber. Apple's new iOS 11 software might not look like a huge update at first glance, but we can assure you that it is. The company has included thousands of new features, refinements, changes, and APIs in iOS 11, and developers got their first taste of the major update during WWDC 2017. Earlier this week, Apple released its second developer beta, iOS 11 beta 2, which included a whole slew of bug fixes that developers (and non-developers) will surely appreciate. But iOS 11 beta 2 also included a laundry list of new features and changes that Apple fans might not know about. Continue reading... It only took hackers three weeks to jailbreak iOS 11

A few days ago we saw a video that showed the various iOS 11 features inspired by jailbreak apps or Android. At the time, I said that Apple should still unofficially support iOS jailbreaks in the future, as they bring up some great ideas for the future of the mobile operating system. It turns out that iOS 11 has already been jailbroken, and the latest developer beta can be hacked to run unsupported apps on it. Continue reading... Scientists finally think they know why eggs have different shapes

Even if you started off your morning with a nice omelette, you probably didn't spare a thought for where it came from, but scientists have long wondered why eggs from different birds can be so dramatically different. Now, after comparing an astonishing 50,000 eggs from 1,400 different bird species, Princeton University biologist Mary Caswell Stoddard finally thinks she's cracked the code, and her theory actually make a whole lot of sense. Russia wants to examine the source code of US software, report reveals
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

While all US intelligence agencies agree that Russia meddled in the presidential election last year, Donald Trump still finds time in his busy schedule to question whether it actually happened. Vladimir Putin, meanwhile, has denied any interference and suggested that any hacks originating from Russia may be the work of "overzealous patriots." A new report shows that Russia has been more and more interested in Western technology and its tech secrets in recent years for two reasons: Preventing hacks and finding vulnerabilities. Scientist says the sun is sneezing on Earth
by Guest Mike Wehner- 0 replies
The sun at the center of our Solar System is one of the big reasons why we're here today, but it can also be a bit of a nuisance from time to time. Coronal mass ejections — when the sun spews a whole bunch of plasma and energy into space — can seriously mess up human communication infrastructure if they happen to graze Earth. For years, researchers have attempted to forecast and predict CMEs in the hopes that warnings could help prevent damage to electronics and the power grid, and when doing so, they've modeled the huge solar blasts as bubbles moving through space. As it turns out, a CME is more like a sneeze. Continue reading... Trending right now: This crazy …

With the iPhone 8 reveal (fingers crossed) just three months away, it's no secret that most people are excited about the device's rumored edge-to-edge display. It's with good reason: the last time the iPhone was graced with a new form factor was back in 2014 when Apple introduced the iPhone 6. Nonetheless, the iPhone 8's edgeless display won't be the only compelling reason for existing iPhone users to upgrade. Continue reading...
