Apple already has its first victory in new $2B Samsung patent fight
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

In the second Apple vs Samsung U.S. patent case that’s set to start on Monday, Apple has already scored a minor victory against Samsung over an instructional video for jurors, which explains patents and patent law. In the video that describes how patents work to protect inventors, several Apple products are depicted including the iPhone and iPad, both part of the current trial. That’s why Samsung wanted the video thrown out, and replaced with an older one that doesn’t feature Apple’s products, and which was shown in the 2012 lawsuit between the two. Continue reading... Just a few days ago, Samsung’s Galaxy S 5 was rooted and the method was made available to the public, thanks to XDA developer, Chainfire. Now, the HTC One M8 is next in line as developers at Team Win Recovery Project have already created the TWRP for the Sprint, AT&T and International variant of the HTC One M8. The custom recovery for the Sprint variant is already available on Team Win’s webpage, however the International version hasn’t been posted over there. So to get it, you’ll have to head to the XDA developer page linked at the end of this article. If you’ve rooted before, the method is pretty similar. All you gotta do is to first unlock the bootloader of t…

The HTC One (M8) may have leaked like a sieve, but it’s finally official. I think we can all agree that it might be the most beautiful phone ever, but is it as beautiful on the inside? And is that Duo Camera useful or just a gimmick? The Google I/O page is up and registration will be open soon. Google releases a pretty nifty Chromecast app, but was it half baked? Google also brought one of Android’s coolest features to the desktop. We got a few more looks at one of the most anticipated devices of 2014, the Moto 360. Android 4.4.3 could be released very soon. What changes will it bring to the table? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for what is sure to be another ex…

PlayOn testing Chromecast support in latest beta
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

PlayOn is a fantastic service that acts pretty similarly to a Roku box. You set up the PlayOn server on a computer, then that server slings content to compatible devices, which could be an Android device, Xbox 360, or another computer. It offers tons of different channels and plug-ins offering links to stream shows online, or as specific as finding foreign news broadcasts. It currently has support for Amazon Instant Video, ABC, CBS, NBC, MLB, CNN, and so much more. It even supports the streaming of local media. In the latest PlayOn beta, they’re fine tuning Chromecast support, which is some pretty big news considering how much content this will add to Google’s Chrom…

Bill reminders and payment links might be coming to Google Now
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies
Android Police recently decompiled the latest Google Now .apk file and found some pretty interesting bits of code that may turn into a helpful Google Now feature in the near future. According to the teardown, there are some strings and information that indicate that Google will be able to remind you about when you have bills coming up, and will even offer quick links to pay them online. A reminder might, for example, show you a credit card payment that’s due soon, complete with the total balance on the account, the minimum payment due, and a link to the card’s website for payment. Sounds great on paper, but as with any other financial information, it’s some pretty s…

Picture of rugged Moto G Forte leaks

If the image above leaked by @evleaks is to be believed, it looks like Motorola might be trying to get into the rugged smartphone market. The image shows a Moto G Forte, which looks like a bulky, more durable Moto G. While it’s pretty unlikely that this will end up being a completely waterproof and shatterproof device, we might see some water resistance, similar to some of Samsung’s newer devices. Hopefully we won’t have to wait too much longer before Motorola makes this one official. source: @evleaks Come comment on this article: Picture of rugged Moto G Forte leaks Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more! While we only saw the Galaxy Tab 4 7.0 picture leak a few days ago, a Samsung Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 picture has leaked, courtesy of Twitter leaker @evleaks. The Galaxy Tab 4 10.1 is the follow up to last years Galaxy Tab 3 10.1, and like the Tab 4 7.0, it comes in two colors, black and white. It will come with Android 4.4 out of the box, and also makes use of a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor, 1.5GB of RAM and 16GB of storage. Because the features aren’t really that groundbreaking, the device should have a relatively low price tag. Hit the break for one more picture, in black! We still don’t have a release date for the device, but it could be released on A…

The Samsung Galaxy S 5 will feature a baby monitor
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies

The new Samsung Galaxy S 5 has a number of great new features, including a heart rate sensor and a fingerprint scanner. But that’s not all that the new device is set to include. Now we know that the Galaxy S 5 will also include a baby monitor, alerting the parent when their child starts crying. This new feature isn’t exactly being advertised, and is actually kind of hidden inside the “accessibility menu” of the device. Essentially, the device emits vibrating alerts on a Galaxy Gear that’s paired with the device. According to Samsung, the feature works best when the S5 is within 1 meter of the baby and there’s no background noise. Source: SoyaCincau Via: GSMArena …

Shazam has updated their iOS app as part of a major redesign, offering improved social media functions, a better lyrics experience, and an overall more polished UI throughout the app. Users will now also see much more in-depth artist biographies, new album and song pages, and even the addition of videos for songs. The app should also be better on your battery. As of right now, the app is only available for iOS, with an updated Android app to follow in the next few weeks. According to teardown, Samsung Galaxy S5 will be hard to repair
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
The Samsung Galaxy S5 has an international release date of April 11, but a Russian website, Ferra, managed to get their hands on one and tear it down. According to the site, it will be very difficult to remove the screen from the device because of a special adhesive that Samsung is using. After getting the display off the device, the teardown is apparently a little easier, but the entire operation will still take over an hour. It’s no surprise that the device is hard to repair because of the fact that it is dust and water resistant (IP67-certified). Because of that, Samsung has to make sure that the parts are pretty tightly assembled. The teardown also showed t…

Google is cleaning up the Play Store’s sexually explicit material, naughty apps no longer...
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Google is done letting people get down and dirty with the Play Store. The Google Play Developer Program policies are getting revamped and it should expel any “erotic” content from the store. So your eyeballs will need a new storefront to glean upon as you wipe the drool from your face. While there was nothing very raunchy found in the Play Store, there was certainly some content that should not have been there since it is a store for everyone. For example, there were some wallpaper apps with scantily clad women. There is a time and a place and the Play Store just isn’t that place. In addition to stripping the Play Store of this kind of stuff, Google will also be cracki…

This is what the new Kinect for Windows looks like
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies
No, the device you see in the image above this post is not the unbundled Xbox One Kinect we've been requesting, but rather the second version of the Kinect for Windows hardware due out later this year. Since the Kinect that comes bundled with the Xbox One no longer uses a standard USB connector, you'll have no choice but to pick up Kinect for Windows v2 if you want motion controls on your PC. The sensor is nearly identical to the Xbox One model, save for the "Kinect" logo across the top, replacing the Xbox symbol. Unlike the Xbox Kinect, Kinect for Windows requires both a hub and a power supply. The hub features connections for USB 3.0, the sensor itself and the power sup…

Android 4.4 KitKat found to be the most stable mobile operating system
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

A recent study done by Crittercism surveyed 106 mobile operating systems on over 2500 different devices to try to figure out which OS was the most stable. It was a pretty massive experiment that found some very interesting details. Out of all of the different things they measured, Crittercism found that Android 4.4 KitKat was the most stable mobile operating system available with a crash rate of just 0.7%. That’s significantly better than the crash rate of Android 2.3, which found that Gingerbread crashed roughly 1.7% of the time. For comparison, Apple’s own iOS 7.1 had a crash rate of 1.6%, just slightly better than Gingerbread. Older versions of iOS saw even highe…

Brad Smith, Executive Vice President of Legal & Corporate Affairs, took to the Microsoft on the Issues blog on Friday to announce that the company will no longer be inspecting the private information of any users reported trafficking in Microsoft's intellectual or physical property. It turns out we're more like bats that we ever imagined, for just as we can call dibs on the last slice of pizza, bats can call dibs on the bugs they're about to eat. MDConnects reports that biologists at the University of Maryland have discovered that male brown bats can use a special sound known as a "frequency-modulated bout" (FMB) that lets nearby bats know that they've put in a claim on a particular piece of food and thus letting them know to stay away. Apparently this ultrasonic call is produced exclusively by flying male brown bats while foraging as the scientists found female brown bats did not emit any such sounds. Continue reading...
