Google just keeps making things easier for developers. Starting today, developers can tailor the “What’s New” description in the Play Store for the different builds of an application. Have the beta? Developers can make you “What’s New” description different than the displayed for an alpha build. It is great and all, but developers just have to take the initiative of doing so. Google takes a shot at weakening Glass haters
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies

Earlier today there were some rumblings about Google possibly dropping their Glass project. We didn’t think that seemed likely and if Google Glass’s Google+ page is any indication, the company has no intention of doing so. Otherwise, there would be no reason to come up with a list of 10 “myths” about Google Glass and take a stab at addressing them. Some of the “myths” have to do with the state of the Glass project. Google points out that the product is not yet ready for “prime time” and will likely undergo some additional software and hardware changes before it is released for general consumers. Google also points out that Glass is not just for the wealthy. While the d…

Could Amazon and Google be the competition the game industry needs?
by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are powerful, exciting machines, but in many ways, they aren't much more than the latest iterations on a very familiar concept. These consoles still take the shape of large, black boxes and they still play games that come on discs, which is why the rumored gaming machines from Google and Amazon are even more exciting. T-Mobile to start taking Galaxy S5 preorders for $0 down on March 24th
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
"Uncarrier" fans who are interested in Samsung's latest flagship phone will now be able to preorder it for $0 down starting on March 24th. Of course, just because you'll get the device for $0 down doesn't mean it's free: You'll have to pay T-Mobile an extra $27.50 a month for the device for the next two years as part of its JUMP early upgrade plan. All the same, that's not a bad deal considering that T-Mobile's monthly voice and data plans are cheaper than both AT&T and Verizon's. T-Mobile has already seen exceptional customer interest in the Galaxy S5, as it's already received more than 500,000 pre-registrations for the device so far. The carrier's full press release…

Galaxy Note 4, LG G3 tipped to have same ‘waterproof’ tech as Galaxy S5
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies
Is being "waterproof" the next must-have feature for any respectable smartphone? Korean website ITToday reports that several new smartphones set to be released this year, including Samsung's Galaxy Note 4 and LG's upcoming G3 flagship phone, will use the same type of water-resistant casing used by Samsung in its Galaxy S5 phone. That the Galaxy Note 4 will have water-resistant casing isn't surprising since it's made by the same company behind the Galaxy S5 but this could mark the first time that an LG flagship phone has featured water-resistant casing. Sony was the first major smartphone manufacturer to emphasize water-resistant casing as a key feature for its smartphones…

Google’s next update to KitKat could be close to release
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

A couple of weeks ago, it was reported that Google was aware of a battery drain problem regarding the Nexus 5 and that a fix would be coming soon. A new version of Android (KTU65) showed up in the Chromium code. Originally it was restricted so that only Google employees could see it, but for whatever reason, the restriction was removed. KTU65 obviously refers to a KitKat build since the first letter is the designator for the version of Android. We explained in detail what the rest of the letters/numbers mean in a previous post, but in a nutshell, this build was created on March 6, 2014, so it’s obviously current. Going back to the battery drain issue, the problem …

Before and after Samsung announced the Galaxy S 5 at MWC this year, multiple reports came along suggesting that the Galaxy S 5 would be priced lower than what’s expected for a flagship device. It was first believed that Samsung would lower the cost of the S5 in an effort to help carriers and avoid taking a huge loss on the devices. The other report, suggested that because the S5 was just a step up from the S4, a higher price point wouldn’t make sense. Well, according to the Korean media, the S5 “factory price” is 800.000 won. That’s roughly $744. The Galaxy S 4 went for 890.000 won ($827) originally. That’s a price difference of $83. It’s important to note tha…

On March 21, tomorrow, the Samsung Galaxy S 5 will be available for pre-order through AT&T. The price is comparable to other flagships at $199 with a new two-year contract. If contracts are not really your type of thing, AT&T Next will make the device cost $25/month for eighteen months. If you choose the twelve month option, the monthly payments are $32.50. Still not happy? The Galaxy S 5 will cost $649 without a contract. AT&T says it should ship in early April. AT&T will also be offering Samsung’s upcoming wearable devices. The Gear 2 and Gear 2 Neo will sell for $299 and $199, respectively. The Gear Fit will also sell for $199. There is an incentive,…

KGI Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has a reputation for accurately predicting device manufacturer plans long before announcements are made. He has mainly made his mark with regard to Apple products, although he has covered Samsung on occasion. He is now turning his sights on Amazon and the rumored smartphone coming from the retail giant. In a note to clients, Kuo says, “we predict Amazon (US) will launch its own brand smartphone in 3-6 months, using the same hardware strategy as used for its e-reader and tablet.” Kuo goes on to predict Amazon will ship 300-600k units during the second quarter and 2-3 million units during 2014. Google is starting to get serious about making sure your Gmail messages are secure. The company announced on Thursday that it is making all Gmail messages go through an encrypted HTTPS connection that will prevent anyone else from reading them but their intended recipient. Google has made HTTPS its default setting for users since 2010 but it's apparently decided to make it the only option in the wake of the massive NSA spying scandal revealed by leaker Edward Snowden last year. The one spec Apple is willing to ignore in the iPhone 6

In the race to beat each others’ specs, phone manufacturers are packing their devices’ cameras with as many pixels as possible. Nokia’s Lumia 1020 exemplified this trend with its 41-megapixel camera. And yesterday, it looked like Oppo would top this with the 50-megapixel camera in its Find 7, although it turns out that it is actually a 13-megapixel camera that mashes together four successive pictures. Google Now constantly has new updates to enhance the service’s functionality, and the latest one will let you open your device’s camera by simply tapping the microphone and saying “Ok Google,” then “take a photo” or “take a video.” It’s a simple addition that probably should have been included a while ago. The update is launching through one of Google’s infamous staged rollout programs, so if you don’t have the Google Search update now, you will eventually. Google Keyboard 3.0 brings personalized word suggestions
by Guest Aditya Thawardas- 0 replies

Google’s own keyboard has been updated to version 3.0. Despite the change to a full new version number, this isn’t a huge update. The update brings a few minor bug fixes and tweaks, such as a dedicated “ABC” button to switch from emoji. In addition, perhaps the biggest change is a new personalized suggestions feature which uses data from other Google Apps and Services to improve suggestions and corrections. The personalized suggestions feature is disabled by default, so you’ll need to turn it on through the settings. The update is currently available in the Play Store, and you can download via the link past the break. Play Store Download Link Come com…

In what Sony is calling “world’s first wearable boarding pass,” Vueling aims to put all user information on the wrist. The application will provide a 2D barcode that can be scanned and it contains the same information found on a boarding pass. It’s not just U.S. consumers that need to worry, at least for the time being, about recent decisions that affect net neutrality, The Next Web reports. The European Union’s Industry Committee voted on Tuesday to implement an anti-roaming charges plan that could also allow Internet service providers to prioritize certain types of traffic as long as they’re marked as “specialized services” and don’t interfere with other services provided by ISPs. One chart illustrates T-Mobile’s monster comeback
by Guest Brad Reed- 0 replies

Just over a year ago, T-Mobile looked like a dead carrier walking — after its plan to merge with AT&T fell through, it kept shedding subscribers and looked doomed to wither and die. What a difference a year of "Uncarrier" initiatives makes: Business Insider flags a new report from UBS that charts T-Mobile's extraordinary comeback over the last year that has seen its service revenue growth go from -9.6% in Q4 2012 to -1.1% in Q4 2013. While T-Mobile would probably prefer to post positive and not negative quarterly service revenue growth, that's still an impressive turnaround for a carrier that looked like it was on death's door at the end of 2012.
