The Moto X is finally coming to Australia
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies
The Moto X has slowing made its way around the world, and the next stop is Australia. Unfortunately there is no Moto Maker option and we don’t know exactly when it will launch. Plus, the price isn’t all that aggressive at $549. It will be compatible with 4G LTE on Telstra, Optus, and Vodafone, but the frequencies of the devices are limited to 800, 1800, and 2600 MHz. That means no niche networks like Optus’ 4G Plus network, which operates on the 2300 MHz frequency. We do have to ask the question….is it just a little too late for Motorola to make any noise down under? source: Ausdroid Come comment on this article: The Moto X is finally coming to Australia …

ZTE teases full-metal body and extremely high-resolution camera for its Nubia X6
by Guest Jared Peters- 0 replies

ZTE is building up hype for its latest flagship device, the Nubia X6, by releasing some vague press renders and camera shots from the device. The press render, as seen above, doesn’t show off the entire device, but from what we can see it looks like the device will sport a metal body. Metal is a fan-favorite choice for premium smartphones (as we’ve seen with the HTC One) so it’s nice to see ZTE putting build quality at the top of the list of features for the X6. Aside from that small glimpse of the physical phone, there were also some photos leaked that are supposedly from a Nubia X6. We already knew the camera was going to be impressive, but the photos show an ext…

LEAK: This is the fresh new software that will power 2014's most gorgeous Android phone
by Guest Zach Epstein- 0 replies

Unless something truly shocking and unexpected happens between now and the end of the year (like Samsung actually releasing a sleek premium metal phone), the All New HTC One unveiled next week during HTC's big press conference will probably be the most gorgeous Android smartphone that debuts this year. It shouldn't terribly surprising, considering last year's flagship HTC One smartphone was the best-designed phone of the year in 2013. We have seen the new model's hardware leak a number of times and it looks terrific, but now a fresh new leak may give us a thorough walkthrough of the upcoming handset's software as well. Huge iOS 7 security flaw exposed (and it was created while Apple was patching an iOS 6 flaw!)

Azimuth Security researcher Tarjei Mandt revealed at the CanSecWest conference last week that hackers can easily exploit a purported iOS 7 security flaw that’s derived from Apple’s intention of actually patching a potential security issue in iOS 6 concerning kernel encryption. "Kernel is the most basic level of an operating system that controls things like security, file management, and resource allocation," CNET writes, with Mandt saying that "in terms of security, [iOS 7 is] much worse than iOS 6." by Guest Jacob Siegal- 0 replies

The sleekest, most intuitive platform for pirated movie streaming we've ever seen was shut down by its creators at the end of last week, but one torrent site has taken on the task of resurrecting the defunct Popcorn Time. According to TorrentFreak, the team at torrent site YTS "will now be picking up the Popcorn Time project and continuing on like previously." YTS believes it is in a better position regarding copyrights than the original designers were, meaning the app should stay online for the foreseeable future. Continue reading... iPhone 6 phablet expected to steal tons of business from Android
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies
A bigger iPhone 6 model would help Apple gain additional profits and market share in the mobile business, ISI Group analyst Brian Marshall revealed in a note to investors obtained by AppleInsider. According to the analyst, Apple’s first phablet will drive “significant upgrades among iPhone users,” and also convert many Android users to iOS, once screen size parity between the two competing platforms is reached. Thus, a screen size of around 5 inches will be responsible for the “motherlode of all [iPhone] upgrade cycles” so far. Continue reading... Via BRG - Boy Genius Report

Camera specs for the most intriguing Android phone of the year unveiled
by Guest Chris Smith- 0 replies

OnePlus on Monday took the wraps off the camera features of the One smartphone, easily one of the most exciting Android handset of the year, revealing that the company will not engage in a megapixel war with rivals and won’t compete with DSLRs when it comes to the phone’s camera. That doesn’t mean that an HTC One-like Ultrapixel initiative is coming to the OnePlus One, just that the company won’t have a 20- or 16-megapixel main shooter like the cameras Sony and Samsung will offer. HTC’s fourth “technical translation” video explains Zoes. Zoes are a feature that allows your camera to snap up to 20 pictures and a 3 second video at the same time, including images occurring one second before you even press the shutter. After the pictures are taken, you can stitch the images together to create a video highlight reel. Enough words though, check out how it works in the video past the break. HTC Desire 816 gets more than 1 million pre-orders…kind of
by Guest Christian de Looper- 0 replies
Today it was announced that HTC‘s new midrange device, the HTC Desire 816, received more than 1 million pre-orders. This news comes after the upcoming Nokia X also reached a similar number of pre-orders. While that may seem like huge news, there is a rather big catch to it. Pre-ordering the device doesn’t actually commit you to anything. While it is great for generating interest in the device, the number of people who actually buy the device will be far lower than 1 million. The All New HTC One has garnered a lot of attention with all the leaks it has faced recently and as if we haven’t had enough it, an ad poster of the The All New HTC One was placed outside one of the Phones 4U store, a British phone retailer. The poster displays a pixelated photo of the device with a large banner on it hinting at the announcement date , March 25th. The poster also confirms that the new device might be called “The All New HTC One”. The only thing that’s left to be known now is ofcourse the pricing and the availability date. Considering the rate of leaks of this device, these information might be also leaked soon. Source: Android Central Come c…

Video showing HTC Sense 6 leaks, shows a slew of “Motion Launch” gestures
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

The All New HTC One (or the HTC One 2014) is coming on March 25. While we have gotten plenty of looks at the hardware, the software has remained out of the spotlight… until now. Over on YouTube, someone posted a look at what Sense 6, HTC’s software skin, will look like. The video did not go too far into things; however, we now know that HTC will certainly be utilizing motion gestures. Like the LG G2, the user can wake the device by double tapping the display. Also, swiping to the left will bring up the widgets panel and swiping to the left activates HTC’s BlinkFeed. Swiping up will bypass the lockscreen (if you do not have a password). TalkAndroid Weekly Recap for March 10 – March 16, 2014
by Guest Robert Nazarian- 0 replies

Things continue to heat up regarding the HTC One 2014. Does HTC have a chance to wow us on March 25, based on the fact that we know so much about the phone before its unveiling? On top of that, ZTE plans on trying to steal the spotlight by making a big announcement on the very same day. We continue to see new Chromecast apps, but most of the major music and video apps are non-existent. We continue to hear rumors about an Amazon phone. Will they ever come out with one? and will anybody buy an updated Galaxy Beam? Could Flappy Bird make an encore appearance? and what the hell is the OnePlus One phone all about? It’s time to get caught up and get ready for another exciting w…

Nokia X’s Chinese pre-order total may not have actually been one million
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Slow down there, Nokia. Over in China, it was announced that more than one million pre-orders were made for the upcoming Nokia X. But now it looks like that it was all a sham. Reportedly, retailer JD.com in China did not require any money to be laid out when pre-ordering because it was actually a contest being held. Hitting ‘pre-order’ was an entry into the contest; therefore, it looks like the Nokia X was not an automatic pre-release hit in China just yet. Google files patent application for a new radial menu feature in Android
by Guest Alihassan Mahdi- 0 replies
The radial menu gesture was first introduced in Android 3.0 Honeycomb, which made it easier for users to perform various browser tasks quickly. A similar concept was introduced in the Galaxy Note 3 known as the Air Command. According to a new report, Google has patented a new radial menu concept with a sub-menu feature. The radial menu consists of a circular menu, each corresponding to various commands that is initiated upon a user’s selection. Instead of making use of a one finger gesture, this new radial menu implementation requires two fingers, the thumb which acts as the first anchor point, and your second finger which opens up a sub-menu with a circular list of op…

8-core smartphones not expected to be big sellers in 2014
by Guest Jeff Causey- 0 replies
Even though smartphones equipped with 8-core processors like the Samsung Galaxy S 5 will be available in 2014, analysts and industry sources don’t think they will be big sellers this year. Two factors seem to be weighing on the prognosticators. First, manufacturers are still focused on quad-core models and supplying these for entry-level and mid-level devices. This will be especially true for white-box handset vendors in China. In many cases, although handset manufacturers have indicated they will support 8-core processors, the design process is not completed to have these deployed. While that work is still in progress, chip manufacturers like MediaTek are maintainin…

LG Lucid 3 (VS876) for Verizon leaks, nothing left to hide
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

Say hello to the brand new LG Lucid 3 (VS876). Earlier today, @evleaks posted the above press render of the device (which has come a very long way). The device, which is likely going to remain in the mid-range field, actually looks rather respectable. LG has ditched the capacitive buttons in favor of a Samsung-like setup with a physical home button. Like the LG G2, the Lucid 3 looks like it has slim bezels. The white icons in the notification bar suggest that the device will ship with Android 4.4 KitKat already installed. Unfortunately, Verizon’s branding strikes again and their logo and LG’s are crammed up top while the backside has logos spread throughout. There is n…

The LG G3 has not been shy of any leaks and today is no different. According to a source at LG who spoke with Phone Arena, LG’s upcoming flagship smartphone is confirmed to feature a Quad HD display with a 2560×1440 resolution (falling into the 2K category). Also, the source confirmed that the device would have a 5.5-inch display. This means that the pixels per inch measurement would come in at a whopping 538. Many of the current 1080p flagships have a PPI in the 400 range. The bigger piece of information from this source comes on the software side. The exact description for it was “advanced personalization.” What this means is that the LG G3 will deliver information l…

Larry Page may have been holding Motorola back from making a legitimate Google phone
by Guest Justin Herrick- 0 replies

When Google acquired Motorola way back when, people automatically assumed it would mean the company was ready to produce its very own Google phone. And according to a new report from The Information, that was exactly what Motorola set out to do. But there was only one problem — Larry Page. Google’s very own CEO was the man who turned down Motorola’s ambitious plan. Here is an excerpt from Amir Efrati of The Information on what Motorola had planned: “Motorola wanted to work more closely with the Google team that develops natural language processing technologies, which help computers understand naturally-spoken phrases rather than a limited set of commands.
