We had a chance to see the Huawei Ascend Mate2 4G in action at CES, and today it becomes the first Huawei phone to be available for purchase in the U.S. If you’re looking for a large and in charge phone, this one might be for you. This 6.1-inch (1280 x 720) beast is priced at $299 unlocked and contract free and can only be purchased directly from Huawei.

Other specs include a 1.6 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 400, an Adreno 305 GPU, 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, microSD slot for up to an additional 64GB of storage, 13MP rear camera BSI with 2.0 aperture (1080p video capture), 5MP front-facing camera, 3,900mAh battery, LTE, GSM, UMTS, HTPA+, Gorilla Glass 3, and Android 4.3. It has one of the largest screen-to-body ratios (79%) and is only 9.5mm thick.

You can place your order today at GetHuawei.com and if you order before June 22, you will receive a SIM card with a free month of service as well as a free phone case. All consumers will receive 20GB of lifetime storage for free from Bitcasa. Now buying a smartphone online is generally not the preferred choice for most consumers, but Huawei is upping the ante a little. Not only are you getting an unlocked and contract free phone for $299, but they are also offering a 2 year warranty on the device plus phone support. Your local carrier will only give you a 1 year warranty even though you sign a 2 year contract.

Huawei isn’t all that well known here in the U.S., but they are the 3rd largest smartphone manufacturer in the world. Only Samsung and Apple are ahead of them. They sold 52 million smartphones in 2013, and they have set their sites on topping Samsung. That is certainly a lofty dream, but breaking into the U.S. will certainly help their chances. They also recently named Mr. Zhiqiang Xu as President of Huawei Device USA. He will be based in the company’s Plano, Texas headquarters and will oversee the consumer business group. You can expect to see the “Huawei” name in a planned onslaught of advertising here in the U.S.

Look for our review of the Ascend Mate2 very shortly, and we have the full press releaes below.
