It looks like Microsoft is going to greatly expand the Lumia brand that was once solely focused on the Windows Phone operating system. Last week, it emerged that Microsoft would be altering some of its brands and Lumia was one of them. The Lumia brand, formerly owned and operated by Nokia, will allegedly focus on only tablets; however, today word emerged that a Lumia device powered by Android will hit the market. We just do not know what form factor is here.
It will carry ‘Nokia by Microsoft’ branding. The Lumia name indicates tablet, but ‘Nokia by Microsoft’ tips it as smartphone. So there is an indication on both sides that this is a tablet or a smartphone. Though, Microsoft could still be in the process of transitioning its brands and that may take a little bit of time. So a Lumia smartphone running Android is likely.
Before you ask about the Nokia X line of devices, we would not worry. They are budget devices for select markets and we would not expect them to go anywhere yet. After all, the Nokia X2 just launched at the end of last month.
