We have seen evidence of a NVIDIA branded controller clearing the FCC that could work with a tablet that recently cleared the Global Certification Forum (GCF). The controller may still work with the tablet, but the BBC is reporting that NVIDIA is readying some sort of gaming console that will have a separate controller.
This gaming console would connect to your TV via HDMI, and is expected to be powered by NVIDIA”s own Tegra K1 chip. It will not only play Android games, but it will also stream PC games to the TV as well.
This sounds an awful lot like an Android TV box. The issue is that Google is not allowing manufacturers to add their own skins on top of the Android TV interface, and we don’t think it will offer the ability to stream PC games. It could be that NVIDIA will only be adding an app for the PC game streaming aspect which wouldn’t affect Google’s interface. Or it could be something completely different since the report didn’t mention any other media streaming like movies and TV shows.
It would make more sense for NVIDIA to adopt Android TV rather than do something on their own like the Shield. The Shield was unsuccessful, and this one will suffer the same fate it they try it again.
