Last year, Sony unveiled their “lens cameras,” a unique camera that attached to a smartphone to snap photos. Today at IFA, Sony unveiled the follow ups to last year’s models.
The first model, the QX30, works very similarly to the QX10 and QX100 from last year. It attaches to the back of a smartphone and has its own microSD card slot and rechargeable battery. Photos can be saved to the lens or instantly moved to the smartphone via WiFi Direct, and the companion app for using the accessory has been updated with the launch of the news lenses. The QX30 offers a 30x zoom and burst shots of up to 10 fps, which is significantly better than what you’ll find on any smartphone. The QX30 will run $350 and should be available in September.
The second model is the QX1, and it offers the closest thing you’ll get to a DSLR on a smartphone. The QX1 comes with a mount for interchangeable DSLR lenses, and it has an external flash. There are also some DSLR-specific features that come with this kit, including being able to shoot in RAW format and superior auto modes. The QX1 will be available sometime this fall for $400.
Any avid smartphone photographers going to be picking one of these models up?
