A new app called Snowball has been released to the Google Play Store with the intent of providing a one-stop source for a user’s messaging apps. Although still in beta, Snowball will let users connect to their Facebook Messenger, WhatsApp, Snapchat, SMS, Hangouts, Twitter, Line, WeChat and Slack accounts. “Connect” is only used in the broadest terms though as all the app really does is watch for notifications from the different messaging platforms and then lets you know so you can check them in an inbox Snowball builds.
The app functions on an Android device in a manner similar to Facebook’s chatheads, although users can slide them out of the way. Snowball is also capable of producing a notification bubble on your lockscreen if you are so inclined.
Since the app is really just watching for notifications to appear, users do not have to login to all the different services to get Snowball to work. When users see a new message pop up, a tap will take them to the inbox that Snowball builds that shows all the incoming messages from any of the connected apps. One downside to this is that you cannot reply from within Snowball – you are taken to the source app for that.
Although Snowball effectively represents a different way of presenting notifications, the company says engagement may be increased by 20% for connected apps according to some early testing. If you want to give Snowball a test yourself, just hit one of the download links below.
