Twitter announced today that they are taking steps to make things safer on the popular social network, with a special emphasis on making reporting of abuse and harassment easier on mobile platforms. Twitter indicates the new procedures and tools they are implementing will require less initial information from users and it will be easier to flag accounts and Tweets for review.
Twitter indicates the availability of the tools will be expanded so users who observe abusive tweets or other potential rules violations can report it, even if they are not one of the parties involved. Although Twitter is ambiguous on specifics, they also indicate they are making back end improvements to ensure quicker response times on their part when complaints are received.
Twitter is adding a new blocked accounts page accessible via the settings menu on the web interface. The new page will show users the accounts that they have blocked. Twitter says they will be adding more tools and features in the coming months. Users will also find that accounts that have been blocked will no longer be able to view a user’s profile.
Twitter has rolled out these changes to a small set of their current users in a sort of beta test. The changes will eventually roll out to all users in the coming weeks.
