Android users who tap into the Amazon Kindle app for reading on their smartphone or tablet can look forward to some new features included in an update released by Amazon. The biggest addition is the X-Ray feature brought over from Amazon’s dedicated Kindle e-reader devices.
X-Ray gives users access to information like character lists, places, and terms used in the book. The X-Ray information can be accessed by tapping in the middle of a page which brings up a menu for users to choose from. The biggest downside is that it is not available for all titles. When it is available though, it functions like the dictionary in that it is a file that is downloaded and stored locally, meaning it can be accessed even when off-line.
Along with the X-Ray feature, some textbook titles now give users the ability to create electronic flashcards based on the material to help their study efforts. Users will also find Amazon has added some push notification options, an improved library search function, and the ability to sync audiobooks to Kindle books. That last option means users can switch between reading and listening to a title while keeping their location synced.
If you want to check out the Kindle app or grab the update, use one of the Play Store links below.
