We’re all very impatiently waiting on Qualcomm to release their Snapdragon 810 SoC early next year, but until then we’re just going to have to drool over what it’s going to bring to high-end Android phones in 2015. The latest improvement to their flagship chipset will come in the form of faster network access thanks to Qualcomm incorporating Cat 9 LTE support.

Supporting Cat 9 LTE means the chipset should be able to hit theoretical download speeds of about 450 Mbps, which is insanely fast. Much faster than your typical carrier’s network, unfortunately, but the potential is there. Qualcomm claims they’ve extensively tested the download speeds commercial network and equipment partners, and everything is working just as fast as Qualcomm claims.

The Snapdragon 810 supports Cat 9 through carrier aggregation, which lets the modem on the chipset utilize three 20 MHz carriers simultaneously. Plus, it’ll still have complete backwards compatibility with older radios and networks, just like all of Qualcomm’s previous Snapdragon chips.
