Dubbed as the “Zeus of phones“, Indian OEM Micromax has just announced the Yureka handset in the country. This is officially the first Cyanogen OS running smartphone in India ever since Micromax struck an exclusive deal with Cyanogen for the use of its custom ROM. This whole ordeal has even led to the ban of the OnePlus One in India as it also runs Cyanogen OS by default.
The Micromax Yureka carries a price tag of 8,999 INR ($142), which essentially means it’s a budget device and not meant to play with the big guys. On the hardware front, the handset packs a 5.5 inch display with a 720p display resolution, a 13-megapixel camera on the back, an octa core Snapdragon 615 chipset, 32GB of internal storage with a microSD card slot, 1GB of RAM and a 2,500 mAh battery with the aforementioned Cyanogen OS 11 ROM which is based on Android 4.4 KitKat.
The smartphone is available in the region exclusively through Amazon India. Considering that Micromax focuses mainly on the Indian markets, it’s unlikely that the Yureka will make its way elsewhere.
