A new round of flagship handsets will arrive by March to carry companies through 2015. We have heard about the next handset from HTC, codenamed “Hima,” for the last few weeks. Steve Hemmerstoffer of NoWhereElse.fr has published a press render, debut date, and specifications for what will presumably be known as the HTC One (M9). The debut for the handset is said to be at CES 2015; therefore, the actual release date would be somewhere around late February or early March. It would be a departure from HTC’s typical March/April releases.
The press render above shows what is allegedly the One (M9) being covered in paint of various colors. Not much is given away by the actual design. In fact, it is missing the front-facing speakers present on both the One (M7) and One (M8). The bezels are slim on all sides, but even the front-facing camera is nowhere to be found. With all of the questions surrounding this press render, we believe that it is not authentic. And the reason that CES 2015 is a possibility for a debut is because the press render shows Las Vegas, the event’s hosting city, as its location.
As for the specifications, we are looking at a very capable handset. The size and resolution of the display stays at 5 inches and 1080p, matching the One (M8). There are changes made with the processor, camera, and software. HTC is jumping from Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 801 to the Snapdragon 810 with 3GB of RAM. The front-facing camera is 13MP and the camera on the rear is 20.7MP. Finally, HTC moving away from the 4 UltraPixel setup. The software running on the handset in the leaked benchmark is Android 5.0.1 and the next version of Sense is a safe bet to be included.
