Streaming TV platform Philo is taking a unique approach to getting their service in front of young consumers. They are partnering with colleges and universities to be the provider for residential students on campuses, including 15 new locations that were announced this week. Today’s college students very likely have significant exposure already to online streaming services like Netflix and Hulu, so tapping into a service like Philo that is provided to them should not be a great leap. Philo believes their platform, which provides live TV and DVR services, meets the changing expectations of television viewers that are part of this newer, younger generation.
Some of the institutions added in this latest round include Clemson University, the University of Utah, and Washington State University. Philo is already deployed at campuses like Harvard University, the University of Alabama and Texas A&M University. All together, Philo now counts over 40 universities as part of its network.
Along with the expansion, Philo also announced they are updating their Roku app with a major redesign that brings some enhanced search functionality to the platform. Philo is also available through a web browser or via iOS and Android apps.
