Google has started rolling out an update for its official YouTube application for Android. The upgrade brings virtual reality support for regular videos, which can be watched on both smartphones and tablets by clicking the new Cardboard icon located in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen during playback.
At present, this functionality will only work with Cardboard headsets, but it’s expected to hit other third-party virtual reality viewers in the not-too-distant future. However, developers will first have to send in their source code to Google for YouTube’s video format optimization, then the search engine giant will publish an update.
