Sprint’s latest television advertisement promoting its new Starter Unlimited Plan started airing this week. This is the plan that isn’t actually unlimited and doesn’t actually cost $20 per month.
The carrier is asking for $20 per month just for 1GB of data on its 4G LTE network. After that, customers will be silently moved over to its 2G network. Unlimited talk and text services are also required, raising the total Starter Unlimited Data Plan to a whopping $40 per month. Sprint’s idea is to trick people with its wording and marketing, leading them to believe $20 per month for unlimited data really being offered before mentioning that there are limitations and extra fees.
The new television ad, which you can watch below, involves a moment in a fictitious sitcom where one son is a Sprint customer and the other is with Verizon. The Verizon son is noticeably lazy and lives at home with his mother while the Sprint son is upbeat and proud to show off his carrier’s Starter Unlimited Data Plan. There is plenty of laughter from the audience and the actors smile from ear-to-ear, but this plan will not really warrant any laughter or smiles. The Starter Unlimited Data Plan will likely cause frustration.
