With the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge, Samsung started back from square one: the design. Now it seems that LG will take a similar approach with the LG G5.
According to LG, G4 sales were a bit of a disappointment. The company explained that a lack of design changes led to a drought in sales. Samsung’s Galaxy S5 wasn’t a big hit either when it released, mainly for the same reason.
With the release of the LG G5, history will seemingly repeat itself. Only this time, we’re talking about LG and not Samsung. Based on previous rumors and reports, 2016 will finally be the year that LG’s flagship goes metal. Up until this point, LG has used all sorts of materials to avoid going metal in order to keep the highly praised removable battery. However, LG may have found a solution to combine both.
Both LG’s G5 flagship and Samsung’s Galaxy S7 flagship models are scheduled to release on February 21, the day prior to the start of MWC 2016. This means that both will go on sale around the same time. Instead of strategizing like Samsung has done before with its Galaxy Note lineup, both are refusing to give up a spot. Instead, the two Android flagships that we know so well will directly clash with each other come launch.
Both handsets are expected to include the Snapdragon 820 processor from Qualcomm as well as stunning cameras, amazing displays, premium builds, and their own rich skin on top of Android full of features. To get an edge, Samsung is reportedly thinking about lowering the price of this year’s Galaxy S7 models. If early rumors for the Galaxy S7 such as a microSD card slot, pressure sensitivity, and water resistance stand true, it’s going to be hard for LG to compete, especially if pricing is a factor.
February is going to be an interesting month on the mobile front and we hope you’re just as excited as we are. Stay tuned on our website for all the news and leaks leading up to the big day, which should go down as one of the biggest, if not the biggest, day mobile tech will see in 2016.
