This past Thursday, Canadian wireless carrier Telus published a tentative distribution schedule for Android 6.0 Marshmallow updates to devices on their network. Included on the list were the HTC One M9 and HTC One M8 slated to get the update starting on Monday January 18th. That date was validated for the HTC One M9 for several Canadian wireless carriers by HTC’s Mo Versi.

In a tweet, Versi indicates the HTC One M9 Marshmallow update will start rolling out on Monday for customers using Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron. Although Versi did not include Telus in his list, all indications are that the major carriers in Canada will all start pushing out the update starting on the same day.

Versi did not mention the HTC One M8, so it is not clear what the schedule may be for that device. However, Versi did respond to one question about the HTC One M8 on Sprint in the U.S., indicating the Marshmallow update should hit sometime around the middle of next week.

Outside of changes to the app drawer, the look of Google’s latest major update to their Android operating system are not very big. However, the Android development team did make some major adjustments to how app permissions are managed, they reintroduced the ability to run apps off the microSD card, Play Store purchases can be completed with a fingerprint, the Google Now On Tap function was added, and users get access to Android Pay.

If you are a customer of a Canadian wireless carrier with an HTC One M9, you can go into your Settings, then About Device and System Updates to Check for Updates to see if it is ready for your account and instead of waiting for the notification. Like most major updates, expect this to roll out in waves, so it may not be available for your device right away.

Great news for our Sasktel, Rogers, Wind and Videotron HTC One M9 owners! We'll go live on Monday for the Marshmallow OS update. Thank you!
