Rumours coming from China suggest that a Huawei dual boot laptop capable of running both Android and Windows may arrive at some point this year.

The news, originating from Weibo, has got the tech world chatting with whispers that Huawei is entering the world of computers, despite the fact the company has not mentioned such a laptop before.

Whilst details are limited at this point, it’s thought that the new Huawei device will be powered by an Intel processor, accompanied by a stylus to offer wider functionality to users. Apparently, the hybrid can be used alone as a tablet or as a laptop with a detachable keyboard.

If the product does indeed hit the market, it’ll be up against Microsoft’s Microsoft’s Surface lineup, which could prove to be a tough competitor.

This isn’t the first time that either Huawei or Intel have experimented with dual OS hardware, either. Both groups can see the benefits of developing such a product for the masses, and back at CES 2014 Intel confirmed that it had been exploring the idea.

As for Huawei, murmurs from the past implied the company was working on a dual OS smartphone, with Huawei’s Chief Marketing Officer saying:

“With Windows Phone, one direction for us – and one that we are now following – is dual OS. Dual OS as in Android and Windows together”.

However, just weeks after the statement was made, a spokesperson confirmed that the group’s plans had changed.

If the rumours we’re spotting this week are to be believed, perhaps now we’ll finally see Huawei enter the laptop business. It’s too early for pricing information, but that’ll be a big factor in determining how popular this mystery laptop turns out to be if it arrives.
