Yesterday we reported that Samsung was gearing up to launch its latest smartwatch, the Gear S2, in India, and that’s exactly what the manufacturer did earlier today. The wearable is now available to purchase from any of the company’s nationwide retail stores or exclusively from online independent retailer Flipkart. The standard model will set you back INR 24,300 ($360), whilst the Classic variant is priced at INR 25,800 ($380).

Samsung also released its long-awaited Gear VR headset in the region via the same channels with a rather hefty INR 8,200 ($120) price tag attached, which certainly isn’t cheap considering you can pick up a Google Cardboard headset for INR 1358 ($20) which does a similar job. You will, of course, be missing out on surround-sound audio and a clearer display, but if you don’t have the cash to splash out on a flashy unit, it’s a great alternative.

If you are interested in picking up a Gear VR, we have to warn you that it’s not compatible with all Samsung smartphones. It will only work with the company’s latest high-end devices, which include the Note 5, S6, S6 Edge and S6 Edge+. Functionality will, of course, make its way to future handsets, so if you’re considering picking up an S7 and would like to have a VR unit in the house for when it arrives, you can rest assured that it will be supported.
