Google Play saw nearly double the downloads of Apples App Store in 2015, but Apple continued to lead in revenue.
Google Play saw just over 200 million downloads worldwide, up from just over 150 million in 2014. By contrast, Apple App Store saw about 100 million downloads worldwide in 2015. It’s been hovering around 100 million downloads worldwide per year since 2014.
But the revenue numbers tell a different story. Revenue from Apple’s app store was around $200 million in 2015. That’s up from about $150 million in 2014 and about $100 million in 2013.
Google Play took in about $50 million 2013, just under $100 million in 2014 and just over $100 million in 2015. Games contributed about 90 percent of Google Play’s revenue and about 75 percent of the revenue of Apple’s App Store.
