We heard about Samsung’s Gear S2 classic and its e-SIM functionality earlier today, and just hours later it looks like some more information is being released. The new cellular variant of the Gear S2 classic will be coming to AT&T, T-Mobile, and Verizon on Friday, March 11th.

As stated above, this variant will have an embedded e-Sim. A programmable sim card isn’t exactly a brand new concept, but the this variant of the Gear S2 is unique in that it will be the first device to hit the market with the GSMA’s new embedded e-SIM specification. This new type of internal and programmable sim card makes for a seamless transition between the carriers, mentioned above, that support it. At this point Sprint does not support the new standard, so those of you, like me, on the Sprint network are out of luck, for now.

For those of you who need a quick refresh on the product specs, the Gear S2 classic comes with a 1.2-inch circular AMOLED display, a dual-core 1GHz processor, and runs Samsung’s home-brewed Tizen software. It also comes with 4GB of internal storage and 512MB of memory, along with that nice new e-Sim.

Unfortunately, the press release didn’t state what the price of this shiny new Samsung watch will be; it looks like Samsung is leaving that up to the carriers who will be selling it. So hang tight until March 11th, and as soon as we get an update on the price we will be sure to update you!
