Odds are TalkAndroid readers may not be familiar with General Mobile as they operate in foreign markets, notably Turkey. The company is making a bit of a splash though with their latest device that is part of their entry into the Android One market. Android One was supposed to be Google’s path to budget phones for emerging markets by combining low cost hardware with a plain Android operating system to control development costs. The new General Mobile GM 5 Plus does not really meet that definition, shooting instead for a firm mid-tier market position.

The General Mobile GM 5 Plus is a 5.5-inch display device that is equipped with 2.5D Gorilla Glass 4 running at a full 1080p HD resolution. Powering this is a Snapdragon 617 chip mated with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage that can be expanded via microSD. The battery is a 3,100hAh unit that supports Quick Charge 3.0 via USB Type-C connector. For cameras, General Mobile packed in 13MP units for both the rear-facing main camera and the front-facing selfie camera. The GM 5 Plus is built with a metal frame and has a textured back cover. Being part of an Android One line, the GM 5 Plus comes loaded with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow.

General Mobile has not announced their schedule, but they plan to initially release the GM 5 Plus in Turkey at a price of approximately $300 USD. Availability will expand to fifteen other international markets.
