With Android fans around the world getting excited about the next anticipated release of Android, Google’s Hiroshi Lockheimer, Senior Vice President for Android, Chromecast, and Chrome OS, decided to do a little bit of trolling it would appear. A popular pastime surrounding each Android announcement is trying to guess what sweet treat the release will be named for. Lockheimer tweeted over the weekend a message indicating Android N may not be so sweet.
In the tweet, Lockheimer shares a link to the Wikipedia page for Nori. It turns out Nori is basically seaweed that is prepared as a treat in Japan usually as a sheet that resembles something like Laffy Taffy, although in other parts of the world it is often used in sushi dishes. Lockheimer notes that it is both “healthy” and “very tasty.” Mainly though Lockheimer seems to be having fun with people trying to figure out what the “N” will stand for.
In the past, Google has opted for a variety of sweet treats as their naming convention for the Android operating system. Those sweets have ranged from items like Cupcake, Donut and Eclair to more recent names from the world of candy, like Jelly Bean, KitKat and Lollipop. Perhaps as Google moves into the latter half of the alphabet they want to move to the salty spectrum of food options. After all, there are people in the world who think something like salt goes with caramel, so why not mix in a non-sweet treat.
