While many of us wait for Marshmallow to hit our respective devices, it seems that Sony has opened the floodgates for its customers with a Marshmallow update rolling out to a slew of devices. If you own any of the Xperia Z5 range, the Xperia Z3+ or the Z4 Tablet, you can expect to see your device being bumped up to Android 6.0 in the coming hours and days.
#Android 6.0, Marshmallow rolling for Xperia Z5 series, Z4 Tablet & Z3+ – rollouts are phased, check locally & watch for the notification
— Sony Xperia News (@SonyMobileNews) March 7, 2016
The firmware update is rolling out to all variants of the Xperia Z5 series, the single SIM Z3+(E6553), and for both the WiFi (SGP712) and cellular (SGP771) versions of the Z4 Tablet. The new firmware carries build number 32.A.1.163 and includes the February security updates from Google.
As you would expect from a Marshmallow update, granular app permissions, Google’s Now on Tap, and the power-saving Doze feature are present, with Sony also including a new Home launcher. It’s been reported that the STAMINA feature is currently missing from the update, but it is expected to return in later on, possibly in the Android 6.0.1 update? It seems that Sony has joined Samsung and LG by not including adoptable storage with the update, which means you won’t be able to designate your MicroSD card as part of your internal storage.
If you have one of the supported devices, and you haven’t received an update notification just yet, don’t fret, firmware updates tend to have a staggered rollout over a few days or even weeks depending which region you reside in. It is always worth going into Settings, About Tablet, and tapping on Software Update to see if it is available, though.
