Android N made a huge splash earlier today, but apparently it came out before Google had any idea what they were going to name it. They don’t have a name figured out, but according to head of Android Hiroshi Lockheimer, they’ve at least got a release date nailed down.
We’ll have to wait a bit longer for the name, but Google plans to make Android N official by the end of the summer. That means it’ll leave its developer preview status and should be ready to go for any OEM to start updating their old devices and shipping new devices with the latest version of Android and all of the awesome new features it brings, including split-screen apps, better Doze functionality, and the tweaked notifications.
Lockheimer did end his post about the name by saying “We’re nut telling you yet.”
Maybe we’ll another big name collaboration and get Android Nutella. Or maybe Google is going to change their naming scheme from desserts to creepy Christmas ornaments and call it Android Nutcracker.
Any ideas?
