While Android N might not yet have a name, a report is claiming that Google is internally calling the new Android version “New York Cheesecake.”

According to findings from Android Police, the code name’s initials are showing up as “nyc” in the AOSP repository in multiple instances. It’s worth noting that Google had an internal name for past versions of Android as well, including KitKat (Key Lime Pie) and Marshmallow (Macadamia Nut Cookie).

With that in mind, it’s likely Android N won’t actually be called New York Cheesecake. After all, these Android code names have a history of not being the name of the final release. And as Hiroshi Lockheimer mentioned, Google has a release date set for the new version of Android, but no name picked out.

Many people are actually rooting for Nutella, though Lockheimer teased the name as being “Nori”, a Japanese delicacy, a little while back.

Whatever the case, we probably won’t hear an official name until Google I/O in a couple of months.
