Movies and television shows purchased from the PlayStation Store are no longer restricted to PlayStation devices. Sony has launched PlayStation Video for Android devices.
The PlayStation Video app for both phones and tablets enables mobile viewing of movies and television shows. Prior to today, Sony only allowed PlayStation Store purchases to be consumed from PlayStation devices like the PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, PlayStation Vita, and select smart televisions. But now you can buy or rent content for viewing in high definition from anywhere. Everything syncs with your PlayStation Video library.
Sony’s other PlayStation-branded video streaming service, PlayStation Vue, went live in over 200 new markets yesterday. This service is being targeted at cord cutters as PlayStation Vue offers live and on-demand programming from channels starting at $29 per month.
Now that PlayStation Video is open to Android devices, Sony has a good one-two punch in video streaming covering all types of programming.
