Instagram’s makers have explained that the mobile app’s home feed will be adjusted to show moments that users ‘care about the most’ first.

According to Instagram’s researchers, on average users miss out on around 70% of their Instagram feed, which has been the driving force for the changes behind the scenes.

Considering the current home layout is seeing users miss out on great moments from people they follow, Instagram is moving around content so that pictures and videos ‘users care about the most’ is displayed before anything else.

Speaking via the blog, an Instagram spokesperson said: “The order of photos and videos in your feed will be based on the likelihood you’ll be interested in the content, your relationship with the person posting and the timeliness of the post. As we begin, we’re focusing on optimizing the order — all the posts will still be there, just in a different order.”

A newly-ordered feed for Instagram isn’t the only recent change we’ve heard about, either. In other news, Instagram has announced that it’s now against the terms of service to plug your social media accounts on your own Instagram profile page. Interestingly, directing users to another website that isn’t an Instagram competitor is still allowed.

Whilst the changes won’t be pushed right away, Instagram has confirmed that the ‘new experience’ will be arriving ‘in the coming months’.
