Claiming the combination of text-heavy notifications and a sea of app icons on smartphones is a relic of the past that limits our ability to effectively use our devices, developer TapTap Mobile UG has released TapDeck version 4.0 to the Google Play Store. Building on their success as a wallpaper app for smartphones, TapDeck is now positioned as a content discovery tool that uses your wallpaper as the gateway to information you may be interested in tapping into.
In making this move, TapTap notes that one of the big benefits to their new method is that they can load content via images which have a bigger impact that mere text. With feeds from over 500 publishers available, TapDeck users can scroll through updates just by tapping on their homescreens. When something catches their eye, they merely need to swipe up to starting reading all the details.
TapTap notes that by using the wallpaper layer, they also eliminate the need for users to download specific apps from content producers. Besides content from what might be considered traditional sources, social media platforms like Facebook pages and Reddit can be added as well. Users can also create their own collections.
The new TapDeck will work with most launchers as long as they support live wallpapers. However, some do require some workarounds to be implemented. You can install TapDeck using the download link below.
