It looks like SoundCloud’s music streaming service is still on track, as the company has secured a licensing deal with Sony’s music division, which was the last major record label that they needed to bring in the fold. The streaming service isn’t quite official yet, but with that last piece of the puzzle falling into place, it’s likely that we’ll hear something sooner rather than later.
SoundCloud is reportedly working on a free tier and a subscription tier for their service, plus they’re baking in user uploaded tracks to differentiate the service a bit from competitors like Spotify and Google. Throw in the catalogs of major music labels, and you’ve got a pretty sizable amount of songs that should appease most music fans, especially if it’s priced right. It’s hard to say if it’ll compete with YouTube well, since that’s essentially what Google has done with All Access and YouTube Music Key Red, but if anyone has the capability of beating Google at their own game, it’s definitely SoundCloud.
