A little over a year ago it was learned that Google was planning a massive new building project for the global headquarters in Mountain View, California. They did run into a bit of snag when the city decided to award significant amounts of development space to LinkedIn instead of Google. Despite remaining quiet since then, Google has been busy refining their plans to fit in with the available resources. Now the official application has been submitted to the City of Mountain View for review and approval, giving us an updated look at what Google hopes to build.
The new development is currently going by the project name Charleston East. Google has retained the huge canopy covering the campus concept, although they have a little more resemblence to a circus tent now. Google’s plans are big on creating either actual outdoor space or the same feel, which is driving the use of the clear canopies as well as the inclusion of 45,000 square feet of interior landscaping. Overall, the project includes almost 600,000 square feet of space. Besides the interior “outside” space, Google is also including an 18,500 square foot “public route” that winds through the campus.
