We all know the OnePlus 3 is coming, we just don’t know when. If you want to believe a new rumor, though, it looks like we might see the 2016 flagship from OnePlus get announced on April 7th, much earlier than the original June timeframe.
The release date isn’t the only thing that leaked about the OnePlus 3 today, however. An AnTuTu benchmark score popped up with the model number A3000, revealing a pretty high-end device running Android 6.0.1. There is a Snapdragon 820 CPU paired with 4 GB of RAM, a 1080p screen, along with an 8 megapixel and a 16 megapixel camera. Those specs fall in line with what you’ll probably see in a OnePlus successor, although they’re far from the extremely high end hardware that made the original OnePlus successor.
The benchmarks don’t tell us if NFC will be making a return, which was one of the key faults of the OnePlus 2. It doesn’t help that these specs aren’t competition crushing (they’re arguably worse than the Galaxy S7) and will probably be outdated by the end of the year, especially by Samsung’s Galaxy Note and whatever LG pulls out for the successor to the V10. On the other hand, though, it’s probably going to be much cheaper than the Note 6 or V11 or any other late-2016 flagship. Pros and cons either way you look at it.
April is just around the corner, so we’ll know soon enough if that rumored announcement is true.
