Coachella’s organizers have partnered with Square to bring Android Pay-enabled readers to the event, meaning music lovers can spend with their smartphones.
Music festival season is in full swing and news that mobile Android payments will be supported at Coachella will mean the end of long lines waiting for the ATM. Square is the ‘exclusive point of sale’ at the festival this year, meaning that a whole host of vendors will be working with the system.
It goes without saying that smartphone payments are far quicker than physical cash transactions, so Square’s involvement with Coachella will certainly save lots of time.
Samsung fans will be pleased to hear that Coachella will also be accepting payments made through Samsung Pay, which means owners of the shiny new Galaxy S7 or S7 Edge are invited to the contactless pay party too.
UK Android owners won’t be seeing Android Pay support at music events any time soon, however, as the wait goes on for the system to finally drop overseas. Google recently confirmed that Android Pay would be arriving in the UK ‘in the coming months’, although a specific date hasn’t been revealed. Major banks such as First Direct, Bank of Scotland, HSBC and Nationwide are all on board.
This year’s Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival kicks off on April 15, running until April 24. If you’re heading to the festival, have your Android Pay smartphone ready to go.
