The first few months of 2016 have been busy with major phone announcements from companies like Samsung, LG, Huawei, and the about to be announced HTC 10. Looking forward to the summer and fall months, one of the devices that may get quite a bit of attention will be the next Moto X device as it will be the first since Lenovo decided to drop the Motorola branding they got when purchasing Motorola Mobility. We have not seen a lot of news or leaks about Lenovo’s forthcoming flagship, but a unit though to be a prototype or testing unit was recently spotted out in the wild it seems.

The device that was spotted was laying on a commuter’s bag while they were working on their laptop and apparently using the new device to watch a movie. The device in the image appears to be consistent with the shape and design of the current Moto X line of devices like the Moto X Pure Edition, though there are a couple apparent changes. First is the presence of a button along the bottom edge of the device. The initial thought is the button is a fingerprint scanner being added so the Moto X (2016) can join other flagship devices in offering this feature.

With the presence of a fingerprint sensor on the front of the device, it also appears the Moto X (2016) may lose the stereo front-facing speakers the current devices have, although a front-speaker grille does still appear to be present at the top of the front bezel. That area of the face of the device is also where an apparent circle M logo is present along with the front-facing camera and what appears to be some sensors for detecting hand waving. Some sources have also noted that the USB port, though not well-defined in the image, is consistent with a Type-C port.

Is anyone out there looking forward to seeing what Lenovo does with the Moto X line of devices for 2016?
