One of the more unique items HTC brought to market with past flagship smartphones was the Dot View case that permitted some limited access to phone notifications with the case closed. For the newly released HTC 10 announced today, HTC also released an updated version of a smartphone case. The HTC Ice View is the company’s next evolution in smartphone cases and expands on the capabilities of the Dot View case.
The HTC Ice View is meant to combine protection with accessibility. HTC does this by equipping the front of the case with a tinted see-through cover that provides access to notifications and some limited functions. The functionality is available because the front cover material is able to detect touch input. Although limited, the commands available could be very useful as they let users do things like use the camera, start phone calls, switch between songs or turn on the flashlight without having to open the case.
HTC says that in addition to the native or built-in notifications supported by the HTC Ice View, third party apps like Instagram, Tumblr and Google+ are also supported so users can keep up with their social media world.
The HTC Ice View case sells for $49.99 and is in stock now on the HTC web site. For buyers investing in the new HTC 10, this may be one accessory worth adding to the shopping cart, especially if they are the kind of person that prefers using a case with their smartphone.
