Samsung is planning their next smartwatch, a successor to the Gear S2. The smartwatch is expected to launch at IFA 2016 in September and be called the Gear S3.
We’re expecting the Gear S3 to keep the full-round display of its sibling the Gear S2. However, we can’t be too sure of anything just yet. Samsung is also said to be preparing a luxury version, or versions of the Gear S3, similar to what it did with the Gear S2. Word is that these luxury watches will be follow-up versions and launch later in March of 2017.
Considering that Samsung launched the Gear S2 in the Fall last year, and then came out with the luxury models in the first quarter of 2016, it seems like the cycle will remain the same. One can expect to pay a pretty penny for the luxury models, which will be aimed more towards the jewelry market then tech. But hey, if that’s your things go for it!
Samsung is hoping that the Gear S3 models help it conquer some marketshare back from rivals, especially from Apple who contains the majority of the pie with around 50%. Let’s hope the Gear S3 makes a nice follow-up to the already good Gear S2.
