Google appears to be working on a YouTube for web design overhaul. The interface could see its biggest change in design since the service’s official debut. Just about every aspect follows right in line with Google’s Material Design UI found across platforms and services.
The new version of YouTube for web is currently being tested among a small group of developers. Through testing, Google will get feedback regarding bugs or issues that it can than fix before rolling it out to everyone. According to those at Android Police, the update adds a modern Google search bar and upload button resembling the one you see across many of Google’s mobile apps. The slide-out menu will also get a refresh, following the Material Design standards a lot closer.
The major difference can be seen on channel pages, which eliminate white space for color matching that of someone’s channel. The famous Google slider and ripple effects are also present. Text is now white instead of black in most scenarios and circles replace most squares. Much of the pages containing the actual video players have remained the same, just with a few tweaks. A Reddit user by the name of giorgiomarinel discovered a way to test it for yourself on Chrome. Instructions on how to do so can be seen here.
There’s no word on when the update will go into effect, but when it does, Google might give you the choice of staying with the same or vying for the new version just like it does on Google+. Some images of the new version have been captured by Android Police, which can be seen down below.
