Samsung has started work on a new line of mid-range smartphones that appear to be on track to mimic some of the lessons Samsung has learned in building a portfolio of top-tier devices. Sources indicate Samsung is working on producing smartphones in the line with at least two different display sizes. The new Galaxy C5 series is also expected to get a metal body as that type of construction starts to push down into lower strata as revealed by some newly leaked images of the phone.

The images show several angles and some close-up details of the new Galaxy C5. Besides the metal body, some have noted the design cues seem to lean more toward an HTC designed device as opposed to what we may be familiar with in the Samsung Galaxy S7 line of devices. Although the apparent likeness with HTC may be unintentional, Samsung may be trying to give the Galaxy C5 line its own unique look to help attract buyers who may be put off by a “downsized” Galaxy S7 device.

From a hardware standpoint, sources believe the Galaxy C5 will be a 5.2-inch device, at least the base model, with a full HD display and a Snapdragon 617 processor. Samsung is reportedly already working on the firmware for the line of devices and will load it up with Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Early thoughts are Samsung will launch the Galaxy C5 in China first and likely some other Asian markets. Whether it makes it out to other locations around the globe remains to be seen.
