Guest Justin Herrick Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 For years, people have been wanting a consistent design across Android. While Google and popular developers have done a pretty good job, many third-party developers have failed to follow Google’s recommended design language. It looks like the company will unveil Quantum Paper alongside the next version of Android. Quantum Paper will provide uniform design across all platforms. This information comes from Android Police, saying that “Quantum Paper is a hugely ambitious project, looking to unify and codify paradigms for visual, motion, and interaction design across all platforms, including web, Android, and iOS.” This is not related to Project Hera; however, Quantum Paper’s design does appear in Project Hera. The backbone of Quantum Paper is Google’s Polymer project. It allows developers to have components that are already built while customizing them to their own needs. The design change can already be found in the new Google+ application. This is supposed to be a good example as to what we can expect Google to bring forward with Quantum Paper. Also, The new design from Quantum Paper has been spotted in leaked Gmail app screenshots. And now since we learned that Quantum Paper will be implemented across multiple platforms, the leaked Gmail web user interface makes much more sense. Google will be updating additional apps leading up to the release of Android L, when Quantum Paper is put into full effect.
