With Apple unveiling HealthKit at WWDC a few weeks ago, Google is readying a fitness solution of its own to introduce at Google I/O at the end of this month. We recently heard about Google Fit, a place for an organized pool of data regarding your health. It will actually be called Google Play Fitness, according to Android Police. Like Google Play Games, it will be backed by Google Play Service. This would ensure deep integration with your entire Google profile while running in the background from its syncing within Google Play Services.

Google Play Fitness would not be a very bold, in-your-face app. It would sit in the background and quietly collect all our your fitness data from various outlets. It can build a unique profile based on what it has organized from those outlets because of this. Things get really interesting when it comes to collecting data of its own. Aside from managing fitness apps on a device, Google Play Fitness will data holes if they missed anything. Also, it will help decide if there are conflicting reports.

We can except integration with Android Wear devices, too. The LG G Watch system dump that leaked contained a pedometer-using goal. It would make sense since Google would presumably include fitness goals with Google Play Services. Or it could be that LG did this for only its own device. I believe it is very likely this is on Google’s end since having goals is a pretty basic essential for any fitness application.

For now, we do not know which existing fitness apps are going to be taking advantage of Google Play Fitness. But it is probably safe to say that we will be hearing a lot more about that and other Google Play Fitness details when Google takes the stage on June 25.
