Marvel Games has met that expectation with the release of Guardians of the Galaxy: TUW to Google Play for $4.99. In a gaming world increasingly taken over by the freemium model, that price might seem a little bit steep, but consider there are no in-app purchases to be made and the developers have even gone so far as to ensure the game is playable with no Internet connection. The “TUW” in the title refers to “The Ultimate Weapon” which is the goal of the game. In the game, players are trying to help recover the five pieces of The Universal Weapon before Ronan the Accuser is able to secure them. Doing so requires players to travel through the Galaxy engaging in gesture-based combat on more than 60 levels. Players are able to control 25 different characters and form their own teams for battle. Upgrades are also available to be unlocked as players face not only Ronan, but other bad guys like Korath and Nebula. Even though an Internet connection is not needed for gameplay, the title does include connections with Google’s Play Game Services and Facebook so users can compare high scores and earn achievements.
