Also present inside of Amazon’s Echo, Alexa now finds itself as a part of Honeywell and Nest’s own WiFi-connected thermostats, which Amazon says will be fully operational by the end of the month. According to a report from The Verge, Alexa will also begin working with some of Insteon’s smart home thermostats too, further expanding the brand and its reach. Earlier today, Amazon lifted the lid on two new devices hoping to transform the living rooms of households everywhere, the Echo Dot and Amazon Tap. Amazon’s shiny new Echo Dot offers a similar experience to the ‘regular’ Dot, although this new device comes in a smaller, more portable package. Meanwhile, the gadget also arrives with an audio port making it easy to hook up to external speakers. Amazon’s second new family member, Amazon Tap, acts like a clever Bluetooth speaker with wireless connectivity and an impressive 9-hour battery life. Judging by Amazon’s efforts to expand Alexa and the selection of the devices that support it, the retail giant is hoping the smart voice assistant will be powering homes of the future for a long time to come.
