Guest Christian de Looper Posted February 18, 2014 Posted February 18, 2014 2014 is set to be a big year in tech, and companies will have to release products accordingly in order to keep up in a quickly changing market. This is especially true for Intel, who is planning a big year ahead of them. The start of 2014 will see the release of Intel’s Xeon E7-8800/4800/2800 V2 and Xeon E5-4600 V2 processor series. The Xeon E7 series will be released using the Ivy Bridge-EX brand, with the Xeon E5 being branded under the Ivy Bridge EP4s name. Intel will also be making some big releases at Mobile World Congress next week. They will launch two new processors meant for tablets and smartphones. These processors will be released under the Merrifield name, using Silvermont architecture. While one of these processors will be a 64-bit version of the Bay Trail-T, the other will be released specifically for use in Android tablets. March will see a refresh of Intel’s Bay Trail-M chip. After that, in April, Intel will refresh the Haswell line for desktops and notebooks. Not only that, but they will also release the Quark X1000 SoC. Following that, their Series-9 motherboards will see a May release, and in August we will see an update to the Haswell desktop line using an X99 chipset and supporting DDR4 memory. A month later in September, Intel will launch updates to the Moorefield series of their Atom chips. This will be done at Intel’s Developer Forum. There they will also release updates to their Haswell E-series processors. At the end of the year, Intel will release the Airmont architecture, with the first chip on that line being the Cherry Trail SoC.
