T-Mobile Simple Choice plans updated with double-data offerings and $80 unlimited tier

T-Mobile is changing their Simple Choice plans for consumers, and in most cases, it’s looking like it’ll shape up to be a positive change. Originally, these Simple Choice plans had three tiers at $50, $60, and $70 offering 500 MB, 2.5 GB, and unlimited data, respectively. These new plans add in a fourth tier and alter some of the data allotments. Now customers can select either a $50, $60, $70, or $80 plan, and those plans will net them 1 GB, 3 GB, 5 GB, or unlimited data, respectively.

 

Unfortunately, this means the unlimited tier is getting slightly more expensive. Before, $70 a month allowed a user unlimited data, while now new customers will have to pay $80 a month. However, the new unlimited plan allows for 5 full GB of tethering, as opposed to the 2.5 GB offered by the previous option. Below the unlimited tier, most other tiers are getting extra data and tethering as well. The cheapest plan is doubled to 1 GB of data and tethering, and the $60 plan is getting 3 GB of data and tethering instead of just 2.5. The $70 plan now offers 5 GB of high speed data and tethering.

 

In addition to the altered data structures, customers will get unlimited texting to 122 countries globally, instead of the previous 115. It’s not a huge jump, but every bit helps.

 

So far, it doesn’t look like T-Mobile is going to force old customers onto these newer plans, but in many situations, the plans offer a better value for customers. Any T-Mobile users happy or unhappy with this switch?
