A couple of days ago, it was reported that Samsung might release the Galaxy S 5 in South Korea a little early because of a 45-day carrier ban imposed by the government. Then yesterday, it was reported that a deal wasn’t reached. Apparently Samsung wanted the global launch of April 11 to stay intact. Now today, Bloomberg is reporting that SK Telecom went ahead and released it anyway.

“We are very puzzled,” Suwon, South Korea-based Samsung said in an e-mailed statement. “SK Telecom strongly asked for an earlier release of the product but we delivered our stance that the global release date of April 11 remains unchanged.”

I guess this is good news for Samsung even though they didn’t want things to go this way. Now they can move a few units before the ban takes effect on April 5. At that time, sales for new customers and upgrades will cease until after May 19.
