Guest Brendan Lynch Posted April 17, 2014 Posted April 17, 2014 With Google’s camera app finally hitting the Play Store earlier today, it wasn’t long before the APK was dissected to reveal a little more than what was initially announced. In what has become tradition every time software is released or updated, Android Police took a closer look at Google Camera in order to get a complete understanding. While we already know the features the software is initially launching with, the APK file has revealed some possible features that have not yet been announced. For starters, it seems that there could be as many as 3 new camera modes, including the advanced camera, time lapse, and wide angle modes. The icons pictured below will join the existing camera, video, lens blur, panorama, and photo sphere modes that the app comes with. Advanced camera mode is likely to include a revival of the white balance settings while the time lapse mode has additional strings that hint towards a length of 24 hours. Additionally, wide angle mode will undoubtedly allow for a complete 16:9 capture. In terms of video, it seems Google has hinted in a string that users will be able to take a photo while recording video, a feature that existed in previous versions of the camera. There are also strings for video effects such as smiley faces and backgrounds. Smaller potential additions are hinted at as well, such as Google finally adding a built-in flashlight mode. There is also a potential focus mode, allowing the user to calibrate the camera as he or she sees fit. Along the same lines, we are likely to see scene settings such as night, sunset, etc. Additionally, there are lines of code that suggest the ability to set a Photo Sphere you have taken as a live wallpaper. This could result in some fantastic looking wallpapers, making your wallpaper seem much more personal. There is actually a PhotoSphereWallpaperPreferences activity, with a color photo, pictured below. While some of these additions are small, others could greatly improve the camera experience. It is important to note that just because there are lines of code to hint at a specific feature, it doesn’t mean the feature is guaranteed to come. However, it does seem pretty clear that Google is interested in pushing this experience a little further. source: Android Police Come comment on this article: Google Camera APK teardown reveals hidden modes and features Visit TalkAndroid for Android news, Android guides, and much more!
