Guest Jared Peters Posted May 1, 2014 Posted May 1, 2014 HD Widgets 4 has been in a beta stage for a little over a week now, with cloud.tv planning on releasing the new features to everyone on May 1st. Well, the day’s finally here, and you’ll seen be able to snag the update to one of the most successful apps ever on the Play Store. The update features a massive design overhaul to the app, but still keeps what made HD Widgets so great in the first place. You’ll get a pull-out navigation drawer that’s more and more common in Android apps, plus new forecast options, including a 10 day forecast. There are also a few new widget sizes, and the normal widgets are constrained instead of expanding to look better on devices with odd grid sizes on their default launchers. It definitely looks like an awesome update, so if you’ll want to keep an eye out for it when it goes live. If you haven’t tried HD Widgets yet, now’s a great time to start. Play Store Download Link PRESS RELEASE – for release Thursday May 1st. Cloud.tv is happy to announce the release of HD Widgets 4. HD Widgets (Editor’s Choice 2012-2013) has reached over 1 million installs while maintaining an impressive 75% active install rate, locking it in as one of the top 20 paid apps in the Play Store. HD Widgets 4 features a substantial cleanup and architecture rebuild without changing the fundamental WYSIWYG experience. Customization is still super fun and easy – just swipe and tap to make changes like before. The new weather screen is now among the most advanced and detailed all-in-one-screen weather apps of any market. The team managed to fit a ton of useful information “above the fold” including current conditions, hourly forecast, and daily forecasts. The most outstanding new feature in the weather screen is the hourly forecast graph. It is designed it to be really easy to tell what’s happening day or night. The graph shows hourly conditions, day / night coloring, sunrise and sunset icons, temperature variance line, and chance of precipitation is displayed as little clouds with raindrops. What else? Daily forecasts have been extended up to 10 days (depending on service) and include short weather descriptions on all devices now. The hourly graph and daily forecast on phones initially show 12 hours and 5 days respectively, but users will see more if they swipe ahead. Widgets also got a big layout overhaul. Instead of expand-to-fill they’re now constrained sizes, benefitting Samsung & HTC home screens with unusual grid sizes. HD Widgets 4 also added a bunch of new widget features including single-column widgets, location-based widgets, custom weather icons, and smart weather stats (which change based on various weather conditions). HD Widgets 4 will be available starting Thursday, May 1. The app will be release via staged rollout, meaning it will be released to a small group of users on the first day, with larger groups following each day.
