Guest Jeff Causey Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Back in March, Paranoid Android added a new feature called Peek, which functions much like Active Notifications on a Moto X, to their custom ROM. Since installation of a custom ROM may be more than what some users are willing to undertake, computer science student Zhe Lu decided to break the Peek app away from the rest of the ROM and convert it into a standalone APK that could be installed on any device running at least Android 4.4.2. Lu is still testing the APK, especially for compatibility with a variety of devices. If you want to give it a try on your smartphone or other Android device, just download the APK using the link below. Make sure you have your device’s settings configured to allow installation of apps from unknown sources and proceed to install the APK. The first time the app is opened it will going through a configuration process and ask for a variety of permissions to be granted. Once installed, Peek functions by detecting movement of the device within 10 seconds of a notification being received. If both these requirements are met, the app will show you what you just missed on the screen and tapping on the notification will take you right into the appropriate application.
